How strong is the Vanuatu passport? Its global rank, visa-free count, what changed after the EU & UK, and how it compares.
The Vanuatu passport ranks around 50th in the world in 2026, with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to roughly 88–90 destinations (Henley Passport Index). It is a mid-tier passport whose real strengths are how fast and cheaply it can be obtained — about two months, from $130,000 — rather than its raw travel score.
By this dataset, about 82 destinations are reachable without arranging a visa in advance (visa-free + visa-on-arrival + eTA), plus 47 with an online eVisa. See the full interactive list and world map ›
Vanuatu's score dropped after the EU fully suspended its visa waiver (2023, formalised December 2024) and the UK withdrew visa-free access (2023). That removed the Schengen Area and the UK from the visa-free list — the main reason the passport now sits around 50th rather than higher. It still offers strong Asia-Pacific access (Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Russia).
Caribbean CBI passports rank higher — St Kitts & Nevis (~155), Grenada (~145), Dominica (~140) — because they keep Schengen (and, for most, UK) access. Vanuatu trades that travel strength for unmatched speed and a lower price. See Vanuatu vs the Caribbean and whether it is still worth it.
